Junkspace is an experiment in creating web-based augmented textuality techniques using new features of HTML5. Taking a Rem Koolhaas essay, the hyperbolic diatribe Junkspace from 2001, I've used Javascript & HTML to overlay semantic relationships onto the text in an attempt to enhance the essay form through programmable web technology.

The techniques used are web-native but require a recent version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari to view. Take a look at the original webpage from which the graphic above was generated.

The project was inspired by (typo)graphical techniques employed by book designers such as Lorraine Wild, as well as a belief that the Web has much to offer the future of publishing, even for previously neglected knowledge forms such as the essay. For a full discussion of the motivations of the project, see the full article.
