I reject the argument that ornament increases the pleasures of life of a cultivated person, or that it is beautiful. I prefer undecorated gingerbread. Modern people will understand.

Adolf Loos, Ornament & Crime

mi says

This reminds me of when I heard Manfred Mohr talk at the Computer Art festival in Amsterdam.

Someone asked him if he was ever inclined towards being irrational in his artistic processes. (He's been elaborating on hypercubes for 20 odd years)

he said:
"No. If I want to be irrational, I go to the beach."

Ralph says

"If someone who is tattooed dies in freedom, then he does so a few years before he would have committed murder" is a good Loos ditty.
